Job Goal: The Somerville Public Schools’ Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE) is seeking a part-time Teacher to teach an Introduction to Entrepreneurship class. The teacher will facilitate a contextualized, competency-based approach to teaching and encourage adult learners to be active participants in their own learning. The teacher will collaborate with other program staff to ensure adult learners are equipped with skills to start and manage a small business operation.   

 

General Description: This position is responsible for teaching the basic skills needed to start and manage a small business operation, such as developing a business plan, marketing, basic accounting, financial management, inventory control, production control, negotiating, loan/funding acquisition and management, workforce development, human resources management, and legal compliance. The Introduction to Entrepreneurship teacher is responsible for preparing engaging, active, learner-centered lessons for adult students. The teacher will work to ensure that students are receiving standards-based and evidence-based instruction that is student-centered, and includes appropriate supports and necessary accommodations. Technology is integrated to enhance instruction and to strengthen students’ digital literacy in preparation for college and/or workplace demands. Teachers follow the SCALE Entrepreneurship curriculum to provide a rigorous and meaningful educational experience to meet program objectives and student goals.
