Qualifications:
- Massachusetts D.E.S.E License in appropriate subject area;
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Experience teaching or knowledge of the specific subject area; and
- Experience teaching or working with students.
- Basic computer literacy
Guidelines:
- Tutors will contact the parents/guardians of his/her student and arrange a mutually convenient time to carry out home tutoring
- A responsible adult must be present in the home when the tutoring is done.
- An initial contact with the student’s regular classroom teacher for information regarding curriculum, books and
- materials should be made. If no teacher is available, the appropriate department head should be contacted.
- Tutors should maintain weekly contact with the student’s classroom teacher(s) to insure continuity in efforts. This is
- important since the classroom teacher is most knowledgeable of the work, which must be covered in order for a student to receive the proper course credit.
- The “Weekly Home Tutoring Report”), is completed by the tutor and submitted to the Principal and/or designee by
- Friday of each week.
- utors are responsible for returning books to the schools from which they were borrowed.
- Homebound Tutoring Program Time sheet must be submitted to the Principal every two (2) weeks or the end of the tutorial service. (No payment will be made without a time sheet.)
- If any problems are encountered such as poor student response, no cooperation on the part of the parents, or inability to make appropriate contacts with the child’s regular teacher, the principal/headmaster or designee should be contacted immediately.
Policy on Grades: The student’s classroom teacher and tutor will determine grades. The principal of the school will make the decision when there is a question concerning the grade to be submitted for the report card. The classroom teacher and tutor will determin e grades based on the material covered, completion of assignments, student effort and test scores. Tutors will administer tests as determined by the general classroom teacher. Tutors will utilize the teacher tests if the classroom teacher so requests.
