Job Goal: Under the direction of special education administration and as assigned through the special education process, the Special Education I&T will follow a schedule of meetings across the district that require interpretation according to student’s Home Language Tracking Forms. The Special Education I&T will schedule meetings and confirm them for Special Education Staff members, outside providers and reconcile them to the master schedule. The Special Education I&T will also translate documents and serve as interpreter as assigned by special education administration during school hours.
Qualifications:
- Proficient communication in English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing)
- Fluent interpreting, reading and writing skills
- Ability to travel around the district
- Bilingual/Bicultural highly preferred
- Interpretation certification
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Babylon Software, Google Drive
Responsibilities:
- Follow a schedule provided by special education administrators for interpreting for parents/guardians/students in their first
- language at team meetings or during assessments
- Provide interpretation to and from families at the Special Education Evaluation Center
- Translate documents at the request of special education administrators
- Maintain a database of Home Language Tracking Forms, making certain that each student’s special education folder has the
- most current tracking form in it and requests for oral interpretation and/or written translations are being subscribed to. Update
- EasyIEP with current interpretation/translation information
- Maintain confidentiality of students and families
- Maintain, confirm and reconcile schedule for Special Education staff members and outside providers
- Maintain a schedule on the Outlook calendar and share it with special education administrator’s weekly
- Maintain school files, paperwork and process
- Communicate with district staff and administrators
- Schedule and re-schedule meetings as needed
- Be fluent speaking and writing
- Other duties as assigned by special education administrators
