Responsibilities: 

 

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies;
  • Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
  • Report to office upon arrival and departure at school;
  • Review lesson plans, materials, and/or instructions left by absent teacher;
  • Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or discipline problems to the school principal immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
  • Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
  • Organize students for effective instruction;
  • Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building;
  • Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies;
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience teaching or working with school age children;
  • Teaching capabilities in all subject areas;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • The ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  • The ability to follow oral and written directions;   
  • The ability to address the various learning styles of students;
  • The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience;
  • The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs;
  • The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students;
  • The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments;
  • The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior;
  • The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies; and
  • The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely.

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Certificate (GED); and
  • Candidate must attend an orientation/training session.

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Full Time employment
  • School Year Schedule: August - June / Monday thru Friday
  • Report to the main office by 7:45am
  • Benefits Eligible Position
  • Non Union
