Tutors – Math and English Language Arts
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, GRADES K-8

 

Job Goal: The Somerville Public Schools is now accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Tutors at the elementary grade level. Tutors generally work with small groups of students who are in the “warning” or low “needs improvement” categories relative to the MCAS test. Tutors are expected to work with classroom teachers to coordinate learning and to track progress using district achievement reports. Resources for the tutoring sessions are provided by the school.

 

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree with expertise in the specific subject area (Math or English);
•Experience teaching or working with students in grades 3-8;
•Computer skills – Word /Excel program to assist in scheduling and tracking students;
•Familiarity with the MCAS test;
•Demonstrated success in motivating and reaching all students in curriculum learning;
•Demonstrated ability to individualize instruction based on assessment data and identified student needs;
•Massachusetts D.E.S.E License in appropriate subject area is preferred.

 

Terms of Employment:
•Pay: $25.00 per hour / Up to 19 hours per week; during school hours

 

Position Reports to: School Principal and Title I Director
